We were so excited to be able to include Wutta Nut! Pecans as a Vendor Partner for the Augst 2024 SimplyNCgoods box. You may remember that we previously shared Wutta Nut! Pecans in a Meet the Maker post back in 2023. After tasting those pecans, we knew we needed to include them in a SimplyNCgoods box! We worked with D’Anne Hotchkiss, the owner of Wutta Nut! Pecans to include their Butter & Sea Salt pecans the recent SimplyNCgoods box. Read on to learn more about D’Anne and Wutta Nut! Pecans…
Product Highlight
D’Anne shared some details about how these delicious pecans came to be: :
“Our pecans range in flavor from our mild Butter and Sea Salt to slightly sweet Agave Ginger and Bacon Maple, to savories like Parmesan Garlic Butter and Rosemary Black Pepper, and two barbecue flavors, one sweet and one tangy. Our newest flavor is for chili heads: Reaper and Weep made with Carolina Reaper. We’re currently planning The Reaper Challenge eating contests. You can find more information on our website.”
Those Butter and Sea Salt pecans provide a light flavor that really highlights the roasted pecan. Bacon Maple and Parmesan Garlic Butter are more in keeping with Michelle’s speed, but the Gabriel, the other half of the SimplyNCgoods team is hoping to get his hands on some of those Reaper and Weep pecans soon!
The Story of Wutta Nut! Pecans
Every small business has a story behind how it got started, and Wutta Nut! Peans is no different. D’Anne was kind enough to share some of the background of this small business, based in Charlotte, NC.
From D’Anne:
“We’re a woman-owned company in Charlotte now in our fourth year of operations, with 8 flavors of pecans. Our Wutta Nut! Pecans are different from any pecans you’ve ever tasted because they are lightly seasoned, not smothered, so that you can taste the pecans in every bite.
Although I grew up in Iowa, where pecans do not grow, we always had pecans on hand from my uncle in south Georgia. Sure, Mom put them in cookies. And we enjoyed them as a savory snack and as a crunchy addition to salads and vegetables.
I’ve successfully created or helped to create several companies in my career, so in late 2020 you might say I got “the bug” for a new and really big challenge: sharing my love for pecans as a savory snack by making and selling them. Today we’re in 4 states, sold by retailers and by craft beverage makers, and used in food service operations.”
We love hearing how D’Anne brought together memories from childhood with her passion for creating successful businesses and is now sharing an especially tasty version of a product grown right here in North Carolina!

“I love both the beautiful mountains and the ocean, local farmers’ markets, small-town festivals, and the picturesque wineries. In the long spring and fall I spend as much time as I can flower gardening.”
Sounds like her Iowa childhood has given way to some great North Carolina experiences in adulthood!
