What Makes a SimplyNCgoods Subscription Box Unique?

Options for subscription boxes abound!  Whether you’re looking for beauty products, pet toys, or international snacks, you can find a subscription box to deliver those things directly to your door.

SimplyNCgoods is not just another subscription box!

What Makes SimplyNCgoods Unique?

We’re from NC and love NC.

Both Michelle and Gabriel, the owners of SimplyNCgoods, are lifelong North Carolina residents.  Gabriel did live in another state for a couple of years after high school, but saw the error of his ways and quickly returned.

Between the 2 of us, we have more than 90 years of North Carolina life.  We’ve lived in 14 different cities or towns in the state, spanning from the mountains to the coast.  We currently call Chatham County home, and love being able to share all that our state has to offer with others!

Each box is personally curated.

SimplyNCgoods subscription boxes are shipped quarterly – the first Monday of February, May, August, and November.  Each box is personally curated to ensure we maintain our vision of highlighting NC-based artisans and small businesses, and helping the small businesses in our state thrive.

We are committed to partnering with a variety of entrepreneurs to share the plethora of items created in North Carolina with the recipients of each SimplyNCbox.  We work to make sure that each box truly highlights the items included, provides information about the businesses, and represents some of the characteristics that make North Carolina unique.

Check out this blog post focused on the process of curating each box.

We value a true partnership with our Vendor Partners.

Many subscription boxes are filled with items that were purchased at wholesale.  Other subscription boxes contain random items that may fit a certain theme, with no knowledge of where the item originated.

SimplyNCgoods truly values working with the artisans, creators, and small business owners who provide items for our subscription boxes.  This is why we refer to them as Vendor Partners!

Yes, they are vendors in the sense that they create a product that we purchase for inclusion in a SimplyNCgoods subscription box.  Yet, they are also partners in our passion to share and support small businesses in North Carolina.  We have ongoing conversations with each of our Vendor Partners about the selected products, how they will be packaged, and how we can best support and represent their business.  Vendor Partners are a critical part of the SimplyNCgoods story and we value these relationships!

We also desire to ensure that our Vendor Partners are paid well for the time and talent that go into creating their products.  While the artisans we work with have a passion for the products they create, those products are also part of their financial livelihood.  One of our values here at SimplyNCgoods is to provide adequate compensation to our Vendor Partners, and we have ongoing conversations with them about this very topic.

Each box offers variety.

Many subscription boxes have a specific focus in the type of products they offer.  Beauty items, pet care, teacher supplies, etc.

SimplyNCgoods focuses on bringing you products that are made in North Carolina.  We want to share all the variety that our state has to offer – from the types of products to the artisans and business owners who create them!

A SimplyNCgoods box allows you to know you’re supporting small businesses in North Carolina, while also getting a surprise with the specific contents.  Each Classic Box will generally contain at least one food item made in our state, in addition to a variety of 4-6 other items.  These may include things such as skincare, home decor, air fresheners or candles, or artwork in various formats.  You truly do have the opportunity to discover multiple new-to-you small businesses in every box!

Passion for small businesses.

We are passionate about small, local businesses!

Both Michelle and Gabriel have enjoyed exploring the unique shops and local restaurants of our respective towns throughout adulthood.  We have been lucky enough to get to know some local chefs, creators, and store owners, and to enjoy the personal touches that can come with those relationships.

In the midst of the many shutdowns that came with the Covid-19 pandemic, we saw and heard firsthand how small businesses were impacted.  We watched our friends struggle in attempts to keep their businesses going – working late into the night, taking on additional side jobs, and even making difficult financial decisions to maintain the businesses they had poured their hearts into.  And we saw so many of those much-loved, local businesses having to finally make the decision to shut their doors and say goodbye to a dream.

As things started to open up again and outside vendor markets began happening in 2021, we also got to watch some of those business owners pivot their plan and begin sharing and selling their products at those markets.  We knew we couldn’t financially support every single one of them.  But we also knew the power of social media to share a product or business with others.  That’s the origin story of NC_Local and our mission to #SupportLocal all over North Carolina.

What began as an Instagram account and a mission to support local artisans – you can read that story here – has evolved to include SimplyNCgoods subscription boxes.  Our passion for local businesses and the entrepreneurs behind them led us to take on this labor of love in curating unique boxes that highlight NC-based artisans and bring their products directly to your door.
